Reflections On Attending Hollywood Blockbuster Premieres

1. Always have a friend who has a role in the film. It gives you a legitimate reason for being there. Nadia has a role in the new Nicholas Cage film, Knowing. It was shot last year in Melbourne. It's Cage's latest Sci-Fi/Thriller/"It's-the-end-of-the-world!" film. Nadia plays his characters' younger sister, Grace. She does alright, our Nadia. Check it out!

2. If a Premiere hasn't been organized by Hollywood types, do it yourself. While there was a premiere in New York, there wasn't one planned for Australia...so Nadia and her partner, Benny invited a few good mates along to watch it on opening night in the city.

3. If Hollywood types haven't arranged a limo, hire a taxi. Nadia and her friend, Aaron (an entourage of one), arrived in a taxi, meeting some of us for a yummy and cheap Japanese meal before the show.

4. Be your own paparazzi.Everybody brought cameras, dressed up and did their best to make as big a fuss as we could to simulate the red carpet vibe at the Greater Union Cinemas.

It's All Happening!

Today I did my first day of Teacher On Call work! (They're called Casual Relief Teachers here.) I had a Half day, subbing in two English classes for the morning at a high school up the street in Clifton Hill. Pretty good, eh? The day was not without its dramas: during Yard Duty on morning break, I broke up a fight on the ball courts. Good times!
Tell you what, it was all a bit of a relief as I woke up at 3:30 this morning worrying about making rent and utility payments!!
Sometimes it all happens at once, and that's exciting!

Today was really good because

1. Damian and I were offered 3 of the 6 properties we applied to on Saturday!
We accepted the offer on the cheapest (and most spacious!) apartment! We move in on Friday!

2. I didn't buy a ticket for the tram today. ( I know...possible bad karma.) However, when the tram inspectors boarded, the ticket machine wasn't working, so I escaped paying for a ticket and a $150 fine!

3. I discovered that CHERRY RIPE chocolate bars are pretty darn tasty!

Buddy Visits

Buddy the Koala walked into reception at the Cottages this week! Who knows what inspired him to enter the building ---and I missed it, but Matt, Jasmina and Alex got some pictures of him looking longingly out at the trees.

This Week in Melbs...

In my search for a place to live, I walked over god's green acre, inspected and applied for three rental properties. (Only one of which is really nice, but beggars can't be choosers.) In my travels, I spotted the Trojan Dog and some interesting Star Wars graffitti. I also taught my first Acting class at Verve Studios on Saturday afternoon before taking the train back to Lorne for weekend work!

My summer season is officially over.

It was the Labour Day Long weekend here in Australia. After a couple of morning surf sessions on the beachies at Lorne and a few shifts at the Burger Joint, I moved out of Waverly 13. I carted most of my summer wardrobe back to the city with me today. I will not miss the hike up the hill to the beach shack, (sometimes too many times a day if I forgot something!), but I will miss the warm weather good times!

FOUND IT!

How lucky am I?
Now I will celebrate wildly by doing something that costs little to no money!

Note to Self #18

No...don't worry! I'm not actually THAT desolate! However, one must always remember that NOT everything can go perfectly all the time.

Today, in addition to submitting a complete application for a lease on a rental property in Northcote, I accomplished many things as a result of standing in queues.

Listen to this: I finally got my Enrollment and Registration package from Latrobe, I officially registered for the classes I have been attending this week, and as a result, I was able to get my student photo ID card. I got to all my classes ON TIME...And along the way, I lost my passport. The universe has just smacked my behind!
