Autumn

The days are getting cooler here in Melbourne, and leaves are covering the ground. My two oil heaters do a damn fine job of keeping my little apartment cozy, and I am savoring some of my favorite winter comfort foods: Lentil soup and Apple Crisp.

These are for Mom

No, it's not really a Mother's Day tribute...but my mom reminds me on a frequent basis that, in her opinion,  there are never enough pictures of me on this blog. So, I thought I'd post a few and get it over with....leaving me free to post pictures of all sorts of stuff that isn't me for a couple months at least! :)

Muso Hang

Muso: Australian for musician, an abbreviation in the same way that "garbo" means garbage man, and "ambo" means a paramedic/ambulance driver.

On Saturday night, I went with Nadia to see Benny play guitar for Bluejuice, a popular Aussie band. We had a heap of fun... chicken and beer dinner at a restaurant called Chicken and Beer, specializing in just chicken and beer...., the concert, a surreal Karaoke bar experience, and a sweet hang with some crazy musicians playing music and singing and shooting the shit until ridiculous hours. I don't so this often, but I got home at 5.30 the next morning.

Benny's on the right, with the flourescent glasses...
which he threw to Nadia in the crowd.

and she let me wear them too.

Anzac Biscuits

My first official attempt at baking Anzac Biscuits went quite well, I think....and I actually made them on Anzac Day as well, so I felt like an authentic Aussie. I brought them to rehearsal the following day so I wouldn't eat them all myself. The verdict? A successful balance between crunchy and chewy.

French Dinner

As a thank you for my service in the French Department, my french colleagues met me at Aux Batifolles, an authentic French restaurant in North Fitzroy. It was a great opportunity to catch up with everyone, who were all back into classes in Term Two at school. The food was superb. I enjoyed a super-yum steak avec les frites and Tarte Tatin for dessert.
